Grateful Dead Save Your Face: 4th Day of July (1981, 1984, 1986) By John Hilgart Looking for a good July 4th show? It’s the best 4th of July show ever! For any band in the history of music! This is one of my all time favorite official releases. The sound quality is insanely good. The show is so tight as well. The morning dew will bring you to tears. This was an absolutely incredible show on a great day to have a show with Bob Dylan nonetheless! It was the Fourth of July and things were a little rowdy, but hey, it was a live Grateful Dead concert on The Party Day of the Summer! But as far as I could tell, it all worked out well. In the mixes below, I’ve curated the 1981, 1984, and 1986 shows, tagging them as separate mixes/albums in the usual SYF “shortlist” way. Enjoy them separately, or as a 2.75 hour Grateful Dead, Fourth of July soundtrack. Well, among all the other things that have been said from those who were there. This show was solid from start to finish. It has superior versions of almost every Grateful Dead song. Cumberland > BIODTL > Row Jimmy are particularly outstanding IMO. Also the Stranger opener is really strong and very well played, as the entire show is. There was a big parking deck next to the indoor arena and some guys had some serious fireworks and they were shooting them at the crowd as everybody was coming out of the show. I thought it was dangerous but intense at the same time. The show was somewhat of a letdown after the previous shows and that we were expecting more from a 4th of July show. Happy fourth in the magic of July 1989! Great energetic version from a fantastic concert! An inspired drums segment from the Devils and a serviceable space segment. Worth the spin. This is a full Video Remaster of: Grateful Dead July 4, 1986 - SET 2- (Farm Aid) I am actively looking for a copy of set 1 of this show in good condition.
