Known as Beach Day, it started in 1999 celebrating the merger of Yaupon Incorporated as the N.C. 4th of July Festival in 1972, the festival remembers the sacrifices, celebrates freedom, and promotes family fun. The N.C. 4th of July Festival is held annually in the City of Southport with many events also held in Oak Island. The North Carolina 4th of July Festival offers a variety of events in Southport and Oak Island from June 27th to July 4th. Events include a welcoming ceremony, Freedom Run 5K, There are two sets of fireworks that take place each year: the Oak Island anniversary fireworks on July 1st and the Fourth of July display on Independence Day at Southport.
