Registrations are now open for the 32nd Annual Independence Day Parade, scheduled for July 4 at 9:30 a.m. The parade will follow its traditional route, starting at Tarpon Bay Road, traveling to Periwinkle Way on Sanibel, and continuing east to Casa Ybel Road. The 32nd Annual Independence Day Parade will kick off at 9:30 a.m. on Sanibel. This year’s theme is a nod to the City of Sanibel's 50th Anniversary! The parade route will start out at Tarpon Bay Road and Periwinkle Way. The participants will travel east on Periwinkle and exit at Casa Ybel Road. Another island Independence Day tradition takes place in the afternoon: The Sanibel – Captiva Optimist Club Road Rally. This year marks the 36th Annual Road Rally, the longest-running 4th of July event held on the islands. Each year, teams compete in the road course to see who can solve the puzzle in the fastest time, with the lowest milage and the highest number of correct answers.
